In December 2017, 21-year-old Andre Aparicio sold his truck to put the down payment on a garage for his dad Javier’s mechanic business. This is not information Aparicio readily shares. He’s not shy or embarrassed, but humble about the gesture. To him, selling his truck for a garage was nothing compared to the sacrifices his parents made to give him a good life. The Aparicios settled in small town Greensboro, Georgia nearly a decade before, relocating from Chicago amid fears that Andre and his brothers would be lured into the local gangs. Now, Javier and Andre co-operate one of the town’s most trusted mechanic shops, Aparicio’s Garage. Andre wants to continue to grow the garage, hoping to create a lucrative family business that his son or daughter will be proud to inherit one day.
